    Why is my washing machine not draining properly?

    A washing machine that won't drain or rinse properly can be concerning, but there are several simple checks you can perform to resolve the issue. Proper drainage is essential for effective cleaning and preventing water from remaining in the drum.

    Common issues for drainage problems

    There are two common issues why your washing machine may not be draining or rinsing properly:

    • Drain Hose Issues
    • Blocked Drain Pump Filter

    How to check the drain hose

    1. Switch off the power supply to the washing machine and unplug it to ensure safety.
    2. Carefully pull the washing machine forward to access the drain hose.
    3. Confirm that the drain hose does not exceed the maximum length specified in your instruction manual.
    4. Ensure that the hose is not crushed, kinked, twisted, or blocked.
    5. If the drain hose appears to be fine, the next step is to clean the filter pump.
    1. Find the filter on the bottom right-hand side of the appliance.
    2. When opening the filter housing, be prepared for water to flow out. If your appliance has a drain tube, use it to reduce the amount of water in the drum.
    3. Place a container under the filter to collect the remaining water. Use an old towel to catch any overflow. Open the filter housing slowly to manage water releases.
    4. Once the water has stopped flowing, remove the filter. Rinse it under running water to clean it. Check for and remove any foreign objects, such as coins or hairpins.
    5. Reinstall the filter securely, making sure it is screwed back in place properly.

    • Faulty Pump: The drain pump might be malfunctioning or broken, affecting water drainage.

    • Electrical or Control Board Problems: Issues with the control board or electrical components can disrupt the drainage function.

    What to do if your washing machine is not draining

    Finally, if your Blomberg washing machine is not draining water or struggling to retain water in the drum, you should check that the drainpipe is correctly set up. Here’s how to check your washing machine water drainpipe:

    • Find your washing machine's drainpipe and the standpipe it connects to. Note that washing machines are heavy; it's advisable to have assistance when lifting or moving the machine.
    • Ensure the drain hose is not inserted too far into the waste pipe—maximum insertion should be 15 cm. Too much insertion can cause a vacuum and lead to siphonage.
    • Confirm that the drain hose is connected at the correct height. The highest point of the hose should be between 40 cm and 100 cm from the floor for proper drainage.
